While configuring network security groups to deny all inbound and outbound traffic by default is a secure initial stance, it is not sufficient by itself and does require further modification. Security groups must be configured to allow the necessary traffic for the application to function properly while still maintaining the principle of least privilege. A lack of specificity in security group rules can lead to service disruption or unintentional exposure if proper exceptions are not made for legitimate application traffic.
