The Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) is an entry-level certification offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI) for individuals who want to develop project management skills. It is designed for those with little or no project management experience and serves as a stepping stone to more advanced certifications like the Project Management Professional (PMP®).
The CAPM exam tests knowledge of project management principles, terminology, and best practices based on the PMBOK® Guide (Project Management Body of Knowledge). It covers topics such as project planning, scheduling, cost management, risk assessment, and stakeholder communication. The exam consists of 150 multiple-choice questions that must be completed in three hours.
Earning the CAPM certification demonstrates a strong foundation in project management and can help individuals qualify for roles such as project coordinator, junior project manager, or team member in project-based work. Unlike the PMP, CAPM does not require prior work experience in project management, making it a great option for students, recent graduates, or professionals looking to start a career in project management. The certification is valid for three years, and holders must renew it through continuing education or by retaking the exam.
