An Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) provides battery backup power when the electrical power fails or drops to an unacceptable voltage level. Small UPS units provide power for a few minutes; enough to power down the computer properly, while larger units have enough battery for several hours. In a security context, it allows critical systems to remain online during outages.
