Developing ground rules as a team in a safe and collaborative setting is the most effective way to create buy in. Leading by example is also an effective way to foster continued adherence to ground rules, but highest buy in will occur when team members are a part of the process. While providing written copies of the ground rules is helpful, it alone may not be sufficient to ensure adherence. Punishing team members for violations can create a negative atmosphere and should be used as a last resort.
