When using Amazon EC2, the customer is responsible for the management of the virtual servers, which includes the installation, configuration, and security of the operating system, as well as network and firewall settings. In contrast, services like AWS Lambda and Amazon RDS abstract these operational duties away from the customer, by providing a managed platform where such low-level maintenance is handled by the provider.
