A workstation was updated last night as apart of a critical security patch conducted by the Enterprise IT Security Team in response to a new vulnerability. The workstation uses Windows 11 but you are not sure what the exact update was supposed to change or modify, other than it was security related. Today the user of the workstation is complaining it is not displaying anything and the screen is black. You have confirmed the PC is powered on. What should you do next?

  • Contact the Enterprise IT Security team to see if it is safe to rollback the update or if this is a known issue

  • Reboot into Safe Mode and rollback the update to see if it fixes the issue

  • Reboot into Safe Mode and run diagnostics.msc -RunDiagnostics

  • Reboot into Safe Mode and disable all startup applications
